Our week with COVID

Th 1/6 Day 1 ~ Heavy Heart  and Lethargic Body
This made sense considering it was our first day home w/out Yoda!
My beloved doggy of 15 years, “moved ahead” (passed away) 2 weeks ago (just after we’d left to CA for the holidays).
So, I thought that the chest discomfort was probably related to my deep sadness and that the lethargy was jet lag related.
Plus my sweetheart, who traveled w/ me, was symptom free and rapid test showed no COVID.
Still, this system was fragile and so it needed a boost of power food along w/ that daily dose of zinc.
The Vitamin C rich fruits were on the way, as well as some additional ingredients to make my Kichaddi as vibrant as possible!  Also seen as Kitchari (spelling) this has been referred to in Ayurveda as the food of the Gods, which in my opinion is well deserving.  This simple stew of basmati rice, split mung beans, veggies and spices is a staple in Ayurvedic cooking.  Ask me for a recipe, and I’ll make sure that it finds its way to you!
Fr 1/7 Day 2 ~ Chest Constricted, Dry Cough and Physical Exhaustion
Good thing I made that Kichaddi last night! It was so comforting to have it greet me this morning.  A power food I got to then enjoy for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It was also time to see what was left in the medicine cabinet.
{I often take along in my travels most of what I got.   Then on the last day I leave it with those who might benefit; this trip was no different}.
Yet, here still was all that I needed to serve as an expectorant and help me loosen my chest and get rid of that dry cough: lots of Ginger Root, Pippali and Honey.

Ginger – an easy one to maintain in your cabinet, as it keeps so well for weeks on end.
Pippali ( Piper Longum)  – This spice is in the same family as regular pepper. I did a video on this incredible herb.

So, I took the 3 ingredients and made them into a punchy tea, which I enjoyed a cup every 4 hours. By punchy I mean w/ a strong dose of its chief spice.  I also added more than the usual pinch of pippali.  While at it, I must confess that there was more than the usual honey amount too! Kkkkkk….
Word of cation (In case you’re considering this tea):  It might be too heating for you! If you know there is Pitta (Fire) in your constitution, or if you have a fever – the ginger and pippali mix will prove to be too heating!  It worked on our end because we were coming into temperatures that were more than 50 Fahrenheit lower than where we were just days prior!

Sat 1/8 Day 3 ~ Elevated Body Ache
Chest discomfort had now been reduced. Yet, now the body had became so uncomfortable that even the hair on my skin seemed to ache.
So, I kept on w/ extra TLC, and now focused on my sweetheart who started experiencing a strong headache and was beginning to copy my dry cough ( or was this his strategy to enjoy my spicy and sweet  yummy tea? ) In any case, he did get some loving.  Oh yeah,  also on the move was taking another covid test!

Sun 1/9 Day 4 ~ Maintaining Peace of Mind
This morning we both tested positive for COVID and within hours our kids dropped off a pulse oximeter at our doorsteps.
When the body is in need of recovery, it is so crucial to maintain our peace of mind!  And if there is a gadget that will do this for you when you got covid, this is the one!!
Cooped up in the house now for three days we longed for one of our nature walks – this is our daily medicine for removing the cobwebs in the mind.  Fortunately, there is so much wilderness around here that coming closer to 6 feet distance w/ another human is most unlikely.  Although only mildly so, I could still sense that the body was under attack, and we were not ready to expose ourselves to the extreme cold! I believe we got to below zero Fahrenheit’s today.  So, we went for a long drive w/ the window cracked open just a tiny bit….a gift in the healing process.
Mo 1/10 Day 5 ~ Gratitude
Both of us were starting to feel better!!!
If this is still the case by tomorrow, we have the green light for cautiously reentering the world (wearing a tight mask and so on).
Tu 1/11 Day 6 ~ Taking time for Reflection*
In a sweet spot today! Close to all that the experience is providing:  appreciation for self care, for only having a mild case of COVID, and so on…  All this while also starting to feel better!
This was my first time experiencing any physical illness since long before Covid started! I truly can’t recall last time I had a cold, but I know that I would have remembered it if I had one during there past fragile 2 years.
Wed 1/12 Day 7 ~ The Path Forward to Optimal Health
Feeling Good!  Possibly already fully recovered!
*My reflections were mostly related to “The Causes of Disease”, the role that the mind plays in this and most importantly, on the ‘Path Forward (not back) to Optimal Health’.
These topics, and more we’ll be exploring in my upcoming Live and Virtual Retreat just around the corner , starting on Jan 29!

Take good care of you and yours!
This makes all the difference, as you know!
In gratitude and love,
