After a cascade of “requests (from the universe)” for the kind of flexibility often required when it comes to holding the present in the kindness, my cup filled to the brim.
From pouring rain, to miss information, to really long drives … the effort put into coming to share the present in togetherness payed back 10 fold!
To be in relationship at this time, two years into a pandemic, both requires more effort and is more necessary than ever before.
So, although the hermit in me is quite happy to be solo, I do stretch myself towards opportunities for connectivity.
Wounded by relationships and still caring some strong triggers here and there ( like other human); here is something that has also become crystal clear to me through this process of relating:
It is by being in relationship that we can most easily remember an easily forgotten, yet so valuable reality – Our True Nature!
We are not separate beings, instead we are interconnected.
Some times,
answering the call to make this bit of effort manifests in ways that are as simply sweet as our recent rainy gathering. There, all I had to do was to settle into sensations of my body, awareness of my surroundings and become receptive to the light that permeated it all.
Other times however,
I’m asked to settle into presence while in the mist of triggering relationships.
The process in both circumstances start in a similar place – Settling into Presence!
The only difference in the challenging dynamic of triggering relationships is that there must be a commitment to practice catching the tendency in me to do one of these two things:
Tightly attaching to the “valid story in my head” that does nothing but add fuel to those places in me that contract. Or, to run to something that will distract me from experiencing this discomfort (plenty of amusing personal stories to share here).
The next layer of this practice is to invite my awareness to gently wait instead. Wait there, without doing anything at all, until a space around the discomfort opens up.
Eventually, by simply being there, I’m ready to release the contraction and become once again receptive to what is also present around and within that “wound up” place – the ease of kindness.
Both of these ‘relationship climates’….
… basking in the gift of togetherness and allowing myself to become as fully receptive as I possibly can.
… breathing thought those contracted places, not as reasons to become more righteous or get more distracted, but instead as opportunities for uncovering a deeper JOY!
Both serve to show me the distinct shapes that the practice of wanting to remember my true nature may take.
I’d like to invite you to join a special little retreat I’m offering this month.
