So, What is Ayurveda?

“A hand book on how to live” TS

“The science of self love” DC

“It’s about developing the skills to find imbalance and know how to treat it in any given moment and over time.” AB

“It’s a gift to enjoy.” TC
These are responses from some of my students, and here goes one from my Ayurveda teacher:
“A science of stress reduction”.

Ah and yes, I must also include here how I was first introduced to Ayurveda:
“Mother of All Healing”.

Each of these are great entry points into the understanding of something as vast and profound as
“The Knowledge of Life”!
Yes, the Sanskrit words that make up Ayurveda are: “Ayuh” (life)” “veda” (knowledge).

So expansive and so deeply structured is this knowledge that it provides us with a complete vocabulary!  A way of understanding all the complexities of life in ways which remain as relevant today as they were at their conception – thousands of years ago!

This timeless and all inclusive language helps us gain clarity around our choices at any given moment.  Yet more than this, it helps us more effortlessly access the inspiration and ability for making the choices which restore our sense of harmony.

The process of bringing this “Knowledge of Life” into context does not have to be arduous.  Indispensable however may be to have the ideal guide, especially at first!
Someone who can point the way to practical and useful ways for going about the experience of these ancient teachings.
Over time, a more intimate relationship to this language is naturally established and as a result you find yourself navigating a more holistic and wholesome lifestyle.  One which supports your very personal sense of wellbeing.
To no surprise, it is also in the deepening of this relationship that your own definition of Ayurveda emerges.

So, I’ll close this note with some words around my own relationship to Ayurveda.
From the soil of my soul
my helping hand….

…generously frees me
to participate in the world more fully.

…luminously reveals to me
a solid path to my inner-most guide.

…wisely encourages me
to notice nature’s simple laws:
cause and effect, gravity and co-creation.

…naturally inspires me
to seek that sweet spot between opposites.

So, I keep on ….
keeping on …

humbly,
Christianne
